Winter Vegetables Au Gratin
With a crunchy topping and cheesy sauce, ordinary frozen vegetables become a casserole appropriate for company.


  • 1/4 cup margarine or butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 pound American cheese, chopped
  • 3 cups Kellogg's Corn Flakes® cereal
  • 2 tablespoons margarine or butter, melted
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 package (1 lb.) frozen carrots, cauliflower, and broccoli mix


1. In 2-quart saucepan, melt the 1/4 cup margarine over low heat. Stir in flour and

salt. Add milk, stirring until smooth. Increase heat to medium and cook until mixture

boil, stirring constantly. Continue cooking and stirring 1 minute longer. Add cheese,

stirring until melted. Remove from heat.

2. In small bowl, combine KELLOGG'S CORN FLAKES cereal, the 2 tablespoons

margarine and garlic powder. Set aside.

3. Cook vegetables according to package directions, until crisp-tender. Drain

thoroughly. Combine hot vegetables and 2 cups of the cheese sauce. Spread evenly

in shallow 1 1/2-quart casserole dish. Sprinkle with cereal mixture.

4. Bake at 350° F about 30 minutes or until thoroughly heated and cereal is golden

brown. Serve hot.
